It’s been another busy year on the Victorian Forests and Bushfire Heritage Facebook page.
Once again, I have gathered up the main stories into a free eBook and published them in the national and state libraries so they don’t get lost in the Facebook soup.
But the biggest achievement for 2024 has undoubtedly been photographing and cataloguing items in both the FCRPA Beechworth museum and the DEECA museum at Altona, and working to make them freely available online.
Two self-guided historical walks at Creswick have also been created – one around the VSF school grounds and another near the old sawpit gully nursery.

Or here…
Great effort, Peter. And thanks for your assistance earlier this year. The number of Rushworth forest stories is burgeoning. I tried to send a compilation to you via the blog site to give you an idea of what I am doing. Not sure if you got that. I’ve attached one example from this week’s Waranga News and can resend the compilation if you didn’t get it. You are welcome to use any of the material I produce.
Best wishes
Tony

I live on Dja Dja Wurrung Country and acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this land and its waterways. I recognise their living cultures and ongoing connection to Country and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Especially Aunty Marilyne Nicholls who gave me my first basket making lesson!

Peter,
Keep up the good work.
I like the approach publishing E info into the national and state libraries.
I am writing a history of The Barn in Grafton and would like to do this. How hard is this to do/ any costs?

Thanks. It’s pretty easy to self publish ebooks. The only cost is buying an ISBN number, which is recommended but not essential. I bought 10 for about $100, but you can buy single ones. I write my documents in word and save them as a PDF file. Then upload to the library on a website called national deposit. Just create an account and upload. It’s free and easy. I make my stuff in the public domain so anyone can download freely but you can place
restrictions if you want. I put a copyright symbol in the document so people must acknowledge my work if they reuse it, but plagiarism on the internet is rife and virtually impossible to enforce. But once it’s deposited it can’t be undone so make sure you are happy with the final product. Cheers
